About Me

Hi, I'm Duncan Winton and I work as a woodsman. I specialise in providing low impact, sensitive woodland management services and also work as a tree surgeon for domestic and commercial clients. My woodland work is primarily in native broadleaf woodland and often in collaboration with Joe Weaver of Comprehensive Woodland Management. Aside from the production and sale of a variety of wood products I also provide landscaping and construction services. For a full list of services see "Services" page or contact me.

I have public and employers liability insurance and am fully qualified arborist and forest craftsman, with large tree felling and windblown tree clearance qualifications.

My interest in managing trees and woodlands began in 2008 after a period working for a hedgelayer and tree surgeon in the Blackdown hills in Somerset. I subsequently got my chainsaw qualifications and spent 2 years working alongside and apprenticing to Anthony Waters of Heartwood Creations – a highly regarded woodsman based at Pentiddy Woods on the edge of Bodmin Moor. The apprenticeship at Pentiddy covered a broad spectrum of work and provided a sound grounding in many aspects of woodland and countryside management. A significant amount of time was spent timber processing, in the form of saw milling, and working on timber constructions. These have become areas of real interest to me with time spent working alongside carpenters when possible.

I've been working as a self employed woodsman in Bristol since the end of 2011. A large part of my work is coppicing and general woodland management. My clients include the Forestry Commission and the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.

I am a founding member of the Avon and South Cotswolds Coppice Group and an affiliated member of the National Coppice Federation.
